chubby sneaking around looking for your thread so i can hijack it with a load of gush:001_tongue: ...But seriously....this thread gave me loads to think about and I have already implemented a couple of things and now have some systems in place to get some more text on my pages etc....Thanks everyone:thumbup1::thumbup1:
I can't remember exactly what was on it before Chubs but I do seem to recall that you had no product descriptions there before. To my untrained eye...the page now has this and tells google what the page is about and now has lots of lovely keywords in there too. It'll be interesting to know what the others think, I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for replies
Page is looking good Chub ,but your title is crap. Dog food dogs supplies dog treats...................e.t.c. whatever is most popular. A
Since it's mainly dog food try something like 'Dog Food and Accessories' or make the accessories a whole new page which'd make it more specific for the SE's. Makes sense to me anyway but the lads will help you out some more on it I'm sure!
Yep...this is automatically done by the categories at the mo....I will see what can be done. What does the meta description look like for that page, OK??
Right click on the page and choose "view Page Source" Dont think it has much effect with regards google but I believe it shows up as the bit of text underneath a search result....
Arh right, thanks Chub, I'll have a look right now. Yeah, from what I've read the meta tags don't appear on your site...see me is learning!
Looks okay to my untrained eye Chub! C'mon all you SEO'ers Nickie wants your opinion on Chubs improvements....:biggrin:
Chub again I would start your description tag "Dog food.............................and then your bumph. You need what ever is in your title to be reflected in both your Description and your page copy. A
Arh, me was just thinking that Al- thanks. So the pet/dog supplies tag should just go on the home page meta tag??? The other pages sould have meta tags that directly match what's on them???
Cheers Alvin...any better? So if I now get my title to reflect both the meta description and the text on the page im nearly there?
Now I'm really confused...I've just been reading that Google ignores meta tags/ descriptions and that they are only used by the smaller search engines for search purposes. Are meta tags and meta descriptions the same thing BTW???
Then you have been reading nonsense Google often uses your meta description for the text snippet it puts under the link in the SERPs. Check this out for more info. d
OK...Im now working on friendly urls....how does this one look....Think it is as "friendly" as I can get it Arden Grange
No, no good. Looks (and is) spammy. Should be something like this http://petshop2u.co.uk/arden-grange Note hyphens not underscores. d
http://www.a1businessforums.co.uk/forum/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=40968 Ok...thanks. I dont think i can get rid off this bit /proddetail.php?prod= easily So would this look ok http://petshop2u.co.uk/proddetail.php?prod=arden-grange-puppy-5106 the code at the end is needed to make the url unigue
